Oil Tip Tuesday: Lemon + Ayurveda

Green clean internally and externally

· Essential Oils

Lemon is by far one of my most used essential oils, in big part because of it's versatility. Lemons and lemon essential oil have been used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat a wide range of health conditions for millennia. Ayuverda is the world's oldest health system that is centered around health being a balance between body, mind, spirit, and social well-being.

The word “ayur” means life and “Veda” means knowledge, because you can only achieve true mental and physical health when you have knowledge of all the facets in life. Ayurveda shows the impact of what we eat, our self-care, our relationships, our environment, our mental state and our lifestyle habits on the way we feel, because it's all interconnected.

I will likely be talking about Ayuverda throughout my blogging journey, so if you're interested in learning more, check out this quiz from Sahara Rose to see what Dosha type you are: and start search engine-ing to dive deeper in this for more insight into your own mind-body connection.

Some of my most common uses of Lemon:

  • Purifies and cleans the air and surfaces
Add a few drops of the Lemon oil to a glass spray bottle of water and use as a Multi-Purpose cleaning spray on counter-tops, furniture, flooring, sinks, in the air.. basically, spray it everywhere.
  • Cleanses the body naturally and aids digestion
The Ayurvedic philosophy believes the first item you ingest sets the mood for the remainder of the day. I drink a drop of lemon in lukewarm to warm water every morning to cleanse my organs and start my day off right. I also drink this oil in my glass or stainless steel water bottle throughout the day
  • Supports healthy respiratory function
Combined with Lavender & Peppermint, you've got our seasonal blend. Super helpful this time of year as the weather changes
  • Naturally Uplifts your mood
Citrus oils have chemical constituents that naturally uplift the mood. I love to diffuse this one in the kitchen for a fresh, happy atmosphere or when I'm needing to focus

I'm telling ya.... VERSATILE
